My life has been dedicated to serving marginalized communities, particularly immigrants and refugees. That commitment is a result of my experience becoming an undocumented immigrant in Canada. I was an American citizen living there as a visitor on my husband’s work visa when we separated. Without him, I lost my immigration status and had to leave Canada with my two small children or face deportation. It was traumatic for all three of us as we had nowhere to go and had to start a new life in the U.S. from nothing.

After we moved, I decided to focus my career on immigrants, teaching English to students (teens and adults) from all over the globe. Since leaving the schools, I’ve been a nonprofit leader and taught small business development in the Latino community. I’ve also served as Director of Thriving in Ministry, helping clergy and lay ministers find a renewed sense of mission and balance in their lives. I have a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Lewis University and a Master’s in Intercultural Ministry from Catholic Theological Union. I am bilingual and active in ministry in my parish, which is majority Latino.
